Defamation

Defamation includes the act of communicating false statements about a person that injure the reputation of that person.

Some of the more common defences to defamation are truth, absolute privilege, qualified privilege, fair comment and responsible communications on matters of public interest. There are nuances in a defamation claim and its defences. As such, it is essential to obtain legal advice if you think that you were defamed or before you decide to say or publish something that may have detrimental consequences.

If your reputation has been disparaged and you are unsure of your rights, or if you are thinking about saying or publishing something that may have negative effects, our litigation lawyers at Jagtoo & Jagtoo, Professional Corporation, have the skills and experience to assess the facts and provide a reliable, objective and trustworthy opinion.
